Graduation, the final round
The final class: play one more full round, then count the real hand using every rule you’ve learned, in a clean six-pass order. This is where the whole course comes together.

Class seventeen. The last one. You came back seven classes after the basics arc ended, and I've spent those seven classes handing you the rest of the scoring language. Today I'm not teaching anything new. Today you play one more real round on a shuffled wall, and afterwards we count it together. The whole thing, every rule, one line at a time. This is what the entire course has been preparing you for. Not tile recognition. Not sheung versus pong. Those were stepping stones. THIS, right now, is what it looks like when you can sit at a real table and count your own hand.
Same rules as class ten. I speak in three situations only: if you freeze for more than fifteen seconds, if I see you about to do something I think you'll regret, and when the round ends. Otherwise, you're playing and I'm watching. This round is genuinely shuffled. Neither of us knows what's going to happen. Ready?
That was your second real round. Whatever just happened (a win, a loss, a draw) it counts the same way it did in class ten. You played. That's enough. Now we count. If you won, we count your winning hand rule by rule. If you didn't win, we count the hand of whoever DID win. And if the round was a draw, we count the hand you WOULD have had if your last needed tile had come. Either way, this is the moment you apply everything the last nine classes taught you.
We always start with the base point. Five tai, every hand, always. Whatever else fires today, that five is the foundation. Then we look at the honours. Then the suit composition. Then the family patterns. Then the shape patterns. Then the concealment rules. Then the wait bonuses. The order doesn't change the total, but it gives your eye a path to walk when you're counting live at a real table. Always the same order. Always the same shape. Let's do it now with your actual hand.
First pass: honours. Look at your hand for wind pongs, dragon pongs, the Little-or-Big composition rules. Count those and add them to the base. The director is reading them off the real breakdown of your round as I say this, and the number you see on screen is your honours subtotal.
Second pass: suits. Did your hand land on 2-Suit, All 5 Suits, Semi-Pure, or Pure Suit? Exactly one of these four can fire, and the engine picks the highest. Add it to the running total. And if your hand has No Terminals or a Terminal Set, add those too. They live in the same neighbourhood.
Third pass: family patterns. Neighbours, Brothers, Sisters, Sister Pongs. These stack with everything and they sneak up. Most real hands catch at least one. Look for pongs on consecutive same-suit numbers, identical sheungs, same sequences across suits, same values across suits. Add what the engine found.
Fourth pass: shapes. Step Up, Four in Ways, Full Step Up. These are rarer. Most rounds won't have any of them. But if one fired today, it's likely the biggest line in your breakdown. Shape patterns are where cascades happen.
Fifth pass: concealment. Was your hand fully concealed? Did you self-draw? Did you have multiple concealed pongs? Every one of these rewards you for what you DIDN'T show the table. In a real round, the concealment line is often the single biggest bonus, much bigger than any honour pong. Add what the engine found.
Sixth pass: waits and pair. True Single Wait or False Single Wait if you were in a narrow winning position. Good Eye if your pair was a two, a five, or an eight. Flowers, one each, or a No Flowers bonus if you held none. These are the small lines. Add them. And now you've got your total.
There it is. Your full breakdown. Every rule that fired, every tai that was added, from base to final total. This is exactly the conversation that happens at a real mahjong table when someone declares mahjong, except at a real table, there's no engine whispering the rules. You have to know them yourself. You do now. If you can count your hand to within five or ten tai of what the engine would give, you're counting well enough to play anywhere.
Seventeen classes ago, you didn't know what a sheung was. You didn't know that dragons paid bonuses, or that the pair mattered, or that eighty tai was a thing a hand could be worth. Today you played a full round, counted your own hand using every rule in the book, read a tell off a bot, and you're about to go play real mahjong with real people. That's what I promised you at the start of the course, and that's what you have now. The course is over. You're not a beginner anymore. You're a mahjong player. Welcome to the table.
A few last things, then I stop talking for good. The seventeen classes you just finished stay open forever. Come back any time. Class one if you forget what the tiles look like. Class nine or class seventeen if you want to re-count a real hand. Class eight if you feel like you're not reading the table. Play mode is open. Every feature is unlocked. The game is waiting. Go. And next time you sit down at a table, remember: luck is always half the game, math is the other half, and everything else is how you hold both at the same time.
