Play well, live well.

Looking after yourself, at the table and away from it.

Mahjong is one of life's good pleasures. The click of the tiles, the company, the small victories. We would like it to stay that way for you: a game you come to for joy, one that sits happily alongside your sleep, your meals, your family, and your rest. This page is here for the days when the balance feels off, and for anyone close to you who may be wondering.

Noticing the balance

When the game starts to crowd things out

None of this is cause for alarm, and none of it is a judgement. These are simply things worth noticing in yourself, gently and honestly.

  • You are sleeping less because one more hand always becomes several.
  • Meals are skipped, rushed, or eaten in front of the screen.
  • Time with family and friends is slipping, or they have mentioned missing you.
  • You feel restless, low, or short of patience when you are away from the table.
  • You find yourself playing to get away from worry or sadness, more than for the pleasure of the game.
  • The hours have quietly grown, and you are not quite sure where they went.

If a few of these ring true, it may simply be time to step back a little. If they weigh on you, please talk to someone. The helplines below are there for exactly that, at any hour, and the people who answer are kind.

Someone to talk to

Confidential mental health helplines in India

There is no charge to call these, and you do not need a reason that sounds serious enough. If your mind feels heavy, that is reason enough.

KIRAN

A national mental health helpline offering a listening ear, guidance, and referrals, day and night.

NIMHANS SHUT Clinic

The SHUT clinic (Service for Healthy Use of Technology) at NIMHANS in Bengaluru helps people who are concerned about their screen and technology habits. Ask your doctor for a referral, or search for the NIMHANS SHUT clinic for current contact details.

In an emergency, or if someone is in immediate danger, please call your local emergency number or go to the nearest hospital.

What you can do on Planet Mahjong

We keep a few quiet tools to help you hold your play in good balance. They are yours to use however suits you.

Set your own play limit

Choose a daily or weekly limit that feels right. As you come close, we will remind you gently, and once you reach it we will hold new games until your limit refreshes. You can change it or remove it whenever you like.

Set a play limit

Take a break

Step away between hands whenever you wish. Your table will wait, and a short walk or a cup of tea is never a wrong move.

Report a player

If someone at the table is unkind, or is not playing fairly, you can report them quietly from the game. We read every report.

How fair play works

Fair play, always

Our tables are watched for cheating and collusion, and computer players are clearly labelled so you always know who you are playing.

Read about fair play

Mahjong is at its best as one of the many good things in your day, not the whole of it. Play a few hands, enjoy the tiles and the people, and then close the app and return to the rest of your life. It will be the richer for the balance, and the game will be waiting when you come back.
